Community Organizer

About the Role

Our client is searching for an enthusiastic and dedicated Community Organizer to empower and mobilize residents in Soweto . This role involves fostering civic engagement, identifying community needs, and facilitating collective action to address local issues. You will work closely with residents, local leaders, and organizations to build coalitions, develop action plans, and advocate for positive change. This is a hands-on position for someone passionate about grassroots movements and committed to enhancing the quality of life within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and engage community members to build participation in local initiatives.
• Facilitate meetings and workshops to discuss community concerns and develop strategies.
• Build and strengthen relationships with diverse community groups and leaders in Soweto .
• Develop and execute outreach campaigns to raise awareness and mobilize residents.
• Organize and support community-led projects and advocacy efforts.
• Maintain records of community contacts, activities, and outcomes.

Requirements

• Proven experience in community organizing, activism, or grassroots mobilization.
• Strong understanding of community development principles and social justice issues.
• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
• Strong commitment to empowering community members and fostering collective action.
• Experience in recruitment and training of volunteers is a plus.
