We are seeking a qualified, goal-driven and self-motivated Acute Manager to join our multidisciplinary team.

Purpose of the Role

The Acute Manager oversees the clinical, operational, and team-related aspects of the NRC's acute dialysis services in the North East Region, to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-oriented renal care. The position requires the manager to take responsibility for clinical governance, service coordination, quality, operations, financial and resource management, and team development at the individual acute facilities, ensuring all relevant standards are met. By working closely with nephrologists, hospital teams, NRC management, and other multidisciplinary stakeholders, the Acute Manager helps deliver responsive services, ensure patient safety, achieve positive outcomes, and drive continuous quality improvement.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree leading to registration as a Registered Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) or Clinical Technologist (Independent Practice) registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
  • Post Basic Diploma in Nephrology Nursing would be advantageous.
  • Qualifications in Management, Leadership, Business Management, Healthcare Management, or a related field would be advantageous.
  • A Quality Management or Risk Management qualification will be advantageous.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer proficiency.

Experience

  • Previous experience ensuring adherence to relevant healthcare laws, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a dialysis, renal, or acute healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Proven experience in delivering patient-centred care and driving positive patient outcomes.
  • Experience in managing clinical quality, patient safety, infection prevention and control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in staff supervision, coaching, performance management, and workforce development.
  • Sound understanding of healthcare operations, resource management, and service delivery.

Knowledge

  • Patient-centred care principles and patient experience management.
  • Clinical governance and quality management systems.
  • Healthcare legislation, ethical practice, and professional standards.
  • Infection Prevention and Control and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Financial and operational management principles.
  • Human Resources management principles and labour legislation.
  • Risk management and incident investigation.
  • Stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Dialysis operations and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Working Conditions

  • The role is mobile and requires frequent travel between hospitals within an allocated geographical region.
  • Availability to respond to urgent clinical or operational matters when required.
  • Work is primarily performed within hospital and acute clinical environments.
  • Regular interaction with nephrologists, hospital management, multidisciplinary healthcare teams, patients, families and NRC employees.
  • Regular use of various communication channels to coordinate service delivery across acute sites.
