Aircraft Stress Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly analytical and experienced Aircraft Stress Engineer to contribute to their structural integrity initiatives in Stellenbosch . This role involves conducting complex structural analyses, ensuring aircraft components and airframes meet rigorous strength, rigidity, and fatigue requirements. You will collaborate with design teams, manufacturing, and maintenance departments to validate structural designs and investigate in-service issues. The ideal candidate possesses a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles applied to aerospace structures, with a passion for problem-solving and ensuring the safety and longevity of aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software to assess stress, strain, and deformation under various load conditions.


• Validate structural designs against regulatory requirements (e.g., SACAA , EASA, FAA) and internal standards.


• Develop and execute test plans for structural components and assemblies.


• Analyze test data and simulation results to identify potential structural weaknesses or areas for improvement.


• Investigate structural failures or anomalies, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.


• Collaborate with design engineers to optimize structures for weight reduction while maintaining safety margins.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering with a specialization in structures.


• Demonstrated experience in aircraft structural analysis and design.


• Proficiency with FEA software such as ANSYS, NASTRAN, or similar tools.


• Strong understanding of material science, fatigue, fracture mechanics, and composite structures.


• Knowledge of relevant aerospace standards and certification processes.


• Excellent technical writing and communication skills, suitable for a hybrid work environment.
