About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Mine Rehabilitation Specialist to join their fully remote sustainability team, supporting projects in the vicinity of Soweto . This role is responsible for planning, overseeing, and implementing strategies for the effective rehabilitation of mine sites post-closure. You will leverage your expertise in environmental science and land management to restore ecosystems and ensure long-term site stability, collaborating virtually with environmental managers, geologists, and external stakeholders. This is a crucial position for an individual passionate about environmental stewardship and sustainable land use following mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive mine rehabilitation and closure plans in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the implementation of rehabilitation activities, including revegetation, soil stabilization, and water management.
- Monitor the progress and effectiveness of rehabilitation efforts using established metrics.
- Conduct site assessments to identify environmental risks and opportunities for ecological restoration.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to ensure best practices in mine closure and rehabilitation.
Requirements
- Degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Agronomy, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mine rehabilitation, land reclamation, or post-mining environmental management.
- Strong knowledge of ecological restoration principles and techniques.
- Familiarity with South African environmental legislation and mining closure regulations.
- Excellent project management, communication, and remote collaboration skills.
