SUMMARY:
Joinery Department Manager - East Rand Gauteng
POSITION INFO:
We are looking for an experienced Joinery Department Manager to lead a high-volume timber manufacturing department within a specialist shopfitting environment.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for production output, quality, workflow, labour performance and on-time delivery, managing approximately 3 Production Supervisors and 40 bench hands.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and control joinery production
- Allocate work and resources through Production Supervisors
- Drive productivity and on-time delivery
- Identify production bottlenecks
- Optimise labour, machinery and production capacity
- Oversee quality inspections and final sign-off
- Reduce rework, rejects and material wastage
- Read and interpret CAD and technical drawings
- Manage supervisors, performance, discipline and training
- Manage overtime and workforce planning
- Ensure safe machinery operation and OHS compliance
- Monitor labour, materials, consumables and departmental costs
Minimum Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in joinery, cabinetmaking, shopfitting or timber manufacturing
- Proven experience managing supervisors and sizeable production teams
- Strong ability to read CAD drawings, technical specifications and cutting instructions
- Hands-on knowledge of MDF, chipboard, melamine, laminates, solid surface, glass, Perspex, Duco/2K and related materials
- Strong quality-control capabilities
- Experience with production planning and bottleneck resolution
- Trade-tested Cabinetmaker / Joiner / Master Craftsman advantageous
- Retail fixture experience highly advantageous
- Willingness to work overtime or weekends when required
Employment Type: Permanent | Full-Time | On-site
Salary: R45,000 – R60,000 CTC per month
