Maintenance Supervisor / Foreman

Our client, an established steel manufacturing company based in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu-Natal, is looking for an experienced Maintenance Supervisor / Foreman to help lead its new plant maintenance team. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate and supervise maintenance work across multiple trades to ensure plant reliability, safety and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, allocate and supervise the daily work of multi-disciplinary maintenance teams.
  
• Coordinate planned, preventative and breakdown maintenance to minimise production downtime.
  
• Plan and manage shutdowns, overhauls and major repair work.
  
• Ensure all work is completed safely, to standard and on time.
  
• Enforce health and safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out, permits and PPE.
  
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety inspections and incident investigations.
  
• Monitor maintenance KPIs, such as equipment availability, downtime and schedule compliance.
  
• Lead root cause analysis and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  
• Manage spares requirements with stores and procurement teams.
  
• Oversee accurate completion of job cards and CMMS records.
  
• Handle team performance, training, discipline and shift rosters.
  
• Work with production and engineering management to align maintenance with production needs.
  
• Be available for standby and call-outs as operations require.
  

Requirements

• Trade Tested / Red Seal qualification in a relevant trade (Electrical, Fitting, Millwright or similar); a National Diploma is advantageous.
  
• Minimum 8 years' maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
  
• Experience in steel, foundry, heavy engineering or a similar heavy industrial environment is strongly preferred.
  
• Proven ability to lead and motivate multi-trade teams in a production environment.
  
• Eligibility for a GMR 2(7) appointment under the General Machinery Regulations is advantageous.
  
• Experience with CMMS software (e.g. SAP PM) and maintenance planning.
  
• Strong knowledge of the OHS Act and industrial safety management.
  
• Good communication, reporting and computer skills (MS Office).
  
• Valid driver's licence, clear criminal record and ability to pass a medical assessment.
