Mine Electrical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly competent Mine Electrical Engineer to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all electrical systems within their mining facilities located near Nelspruit . This role involves managing the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical infrastructure, including power distribution, heavy machinery, and control systems. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all safety standards and regulations, optimizing power usage, and minimizing downtime. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in industrial electrical engineering, with specific experience in the demanding mining environment. Your proactive approach to maintenance and problem-solving will be key to supporting seamless mining operations and contributing to the overall productivity and safety of the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, installation, and commissioning of electrical systems and equipment for mining operations.
• Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance programs for all electrical infrastructure.
• Ensure the safe operation and maintenance of high-voltage distribution systems, substations, and transformers.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical faults on mining equipment, including haul trucks, excavators, and processing machinery.
• Manage electrical safety compliance, conducting audits and ensuring adherence to regulations.
• Optimize power consumption and explore opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.
• Supervise and mentor a team of electricians and technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) or equivalent professional registration.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in industrial electrical engineering, with at least 4 years in a mining environment.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution, motor control, PLC systems, and hazardous area electrical safety.
• Experience with electrical safety management systems and relevant legislation.
• Proven leadership and project management skills.
