CCG Systems is an ICT sector and is well known to specialize in the implementation and support of ERP systems as well as Payroll & HR Systems to which our clients are made of mostly Municipalities throughout South Africa. Our company is looking for a potential candidate to join our IT team in the capacity of a Database Administrator, to be based at our Head Office.
The Database Administrator is responsible for the availability, performance, security, integrity, reliability and recoverability of the organisation's databases. The role will administer and support production, development and UAT database environments, with particular focus on Microsoft SQL Server and databases supporting critical business applications, ERP, financial, billing and reporting systems. The DBA will ensure that databases are properly maintained, monitored, secured and backed up, while providing technical support for database-related incidents, performance issues, system implementations, upgrades and disaster recovery activities. The position requires a high level of technical discipline because the databases support business-critical and financially sensitive applications.
Formal Qualification required
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Database Administration; or a related field. Relevant Microsoft SQL Server certification.
Microsoft Azure database-related certification. ITIL Foundation or equivalent service-management certification. Relevant cybersecurity certification

Database Administration
- Install, configure and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments.
- Create, configure and maintain databases.
- Manage database instances, databases, schemas and database objects.
- Monitor database health and availability.
- Perform routine database maintenance.
- Manage database growth and storage requirements.
- Monitor database capacity and proactively identify potential capacity constraints.
- Maintain accurate database documentation and configuration records.
- Support production, development, testing and UAT database environments.
Database Performance Management
- Monitor database and SQL Server performance.
- Investigate slow-running queries and database performance issues.
- Analyse execution plans and identify inefficient queries.
- Perform query optimisation and performance tuning.
- Manage indexes and statistics.
- Investigate blocking, deadlocks and long-running transactions.
- Identify CPU, memory, disk I/O and storage-related database bottlenecks.
- Establish performance baselines and monitor deviations.
- Recommend infrastructure or database configuration improvements where required.
Backup and Recovery
- Design, implement and maintain database backup strategies.
- Monitor the successful completion of scheduled backups.
- Perform full, differential and transaction-log backups as required.
- Regularly test database restoration procedures.
- Maintain backup retention policies.
- Investigate and resolve failed backups.
- Ensure databases can be recovered within defined recovery requirements.
- Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.
- Maintain appropriate Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) procedures
Database Security
- Manage SQL Server users, roles and permissions.
- Implement role-based access controls.
- Ensure the principle of least privilege is applied.
- Monitor privileged database access.
- Support integration with Windows/Active Directory authentication where applicable.
- Implement database security controls and encryption where required.
- Ensure appropriate protection of sensitive and financial information.
- Participate in database security assessments and remediation activities.
- Ensure database access is aligned with organisational security policies
