Geophysical Data Analyst

About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Geophysical Data Analyst to join their exploration team in Upington, Northern Cape . This role is fundamental to interpreting and processing vast amounts of seismic and other geophysical data to identify potential hydrocarbon reserves and understand subsurface geology. You will work closely with geologists and reservoir engineers to provide crucial insights for exploration strategies and project viability. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to significant exploration efforts within South Africa's developing Oil & Gas sector, utilizing cutting-edge data analysis techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Process, interpret, and analyze seismic data, including 2D and 3D surveys, to identify geological structures and potential prospects.
• Integrate various geophysical datasets (e.g., gravity, magnetics, well logs) to build comprehensive subsurface models.
• Perform data quality control and ensure the accuracy and reliability of processed information.
• Utilize advanced geophysical software and algorithms for data interpretation and attribute analysis.
• Collaborate with geologists and reservoir engineers to validate findings and support exploration decisions.
• Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing geophysical interpretations and recommendations for exploration targets in the Northern Cape region.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geophysics, Geology, Physics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in geophysical data processing and interpretation, preferably in the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proficiency with industry-standard geophysical software packages (e.g., Petrel, OpendTect, GeoGraphix).
• Strong understanding of seismic principles, data acquisition, and processing workflows.
• Experience with attribute analysis and inversion techniques is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
