Junior Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant Location: Hyde Park, Johannesburg Employment Type: Permanent | Office-based Salary: Approximately R18,000 – R23,000 per month, depending on experience Start Date: ASAP Introduction A growing financial services business based in Hyde Park, Johannesburg is looking for a hands-on Junior Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant to join its finance team. This opportunity would suit a junior accounting professional or accounting graduate who already has practical bookkeeping exposure and is looking to develop within a growing finance environment. The immediate requirement is for someone who can take responsibility for the day-to-day bookkeeping and transaction-processing workload, particularly within Sage One Online Accounting . The successful candidate must be comfortable performing the detailed processing work required in a busy finance department and should not expect to move immediately into a purely reporting or senior accounting function. Duties & Responsibilities Process and allocate daily bank transactions accurately. Perform bookkeeping and transaction processing using Sage. Match invoices against relevant transactions and supporting documentation. Import and process accounting journals. Perform accurate account allocations. Assist with the current bookkeeping backlog and bring processing up to date. Maintain accurate and complete accounting records. Ensure transactions are captured and allocated correctly. Assist the finance function with ongoing daily processing requirements. Support the senior finance team with additional accounting duties as the role develops. Assist with reconciliations and other bookkeeping-related responsibilities where required. Maintain a high level of accuracy when processing financial information. Essential Requirements Relevant accounting, bookkeeping or finance qualification. Accounting graduates will be considered. Practical bookkeeping or accounting processing experience. Experience working with Sage is strongly preferred. Sage One Online Accounting experience would be highly advantageous. Experience processing bank transactions and allocations. Understanding of invoice matching and journal processing. Strong attention to detail. High level of numerical accuracy. Able to work independently once trained. Comfortable handling a high volume of daily transactions. Willing to perform hands-on bookkeeping and transaction-processing duties. Able to work from the Hyde Park office. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a junior finance professional who wants to grow within an accounting team but is equally comfortable doing the fundamental bookkeeping work required now. The company is specifically looking for someone who can become productive quickly. Training can be provided where necessary, particularly around internal processes, but the successful candidate must have sufficient accounting knowledge and practical ability to work independently without requiring continuous supervision. Candidates who are already significantly senior or who have moved beyond hands-on bookkeeping and transaction processing may not be suited to the position. Systems Sage One Online Accounting is the primary accounting system used within the business. Candidates with existing Sage experience will therefore have a significant advantage. Remuneration Approximately R18,000 – R23,000 per month , depending on qualifications and relevant experience.
