Pele Energy Group is seeking a motivated graduate to join its ESG team, offering an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in environmental, social, and governance practices as well as sustainability. The graduate will work closely with the team across ESG initiatives, including environmental data collection and analysis, ESG reporting, compliance monitoring, and supporting the implementation of the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS). This role provides practical exposure to global ESG frameworks, carbon reporting methodologies, and South Africa’s environmental policies, preparing the graduate for a career at the intersection of sustainability and impact.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the ESMS
- Assist in preparing sustainability reports aligned with global ESG frameworks such as GRI, TCFD, and SASB
- Support the development and implementation of ESG initiatives
- Assist in collecting, analyzing, and reporting ESG data across environmental, social, and governance metrics
- Support data management, analysis, and visualization using Excel or similar tools
- Contribute to the calculation and reporting of Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions
- Conduct research on sustainability trends, regulatory developments, and emerging best practices
- Support the implementation of policies and procedures related to ESG compliance
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed ESG principles into company operations
- Contribute to ESG documentation and internal communications
- Provide administrative and technical support to the ESG team
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Chemical Engineering, Sustainability, Climate Change, Economics, or related fields
- Basic understanding of ESG principles and sustainability practices
- Familiarity with global ESG frameworks and reporting standards including GRI, TCFD, SASB, and IFC Performance Standards
- Knowledge of GHG Protocol and carbon reporting methodologies
- Coursework or experience related to Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with familiarity in data analysis and visualization tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and research skills
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Basic report writing skills
- Understanding of South Africa’s environmental policies and regulations
