In-House Counsel - Remote

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and adaptable In-House Counsel to join their expanding team. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere within South Africa. You will be responsible for providing broad-ranging legal support to the company, covering areas such as contract law, intellectual property, and compliance. This role is crucial for safeguarding the company's legal interests and ensuring smooth operational execution by offering timely and practical legal advice to various departments. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, capable of managing their workload effectively in a remote setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate various commercial contracts, including NDAs, service agreements, and licensing deals.
• Provide legal advice on employment law, data privacy (POPIA), and company policies.
• Manage intellectual property portfolios, including trademarks and copyrights.
• Assist in the development and implementation of compliance frameworks and training programs.
• Conduct legal research on evolving legislation and its impact on the business.
• Support dispute resolution and manage external legal counsel when required.

Requirements

• Qualified legal professional (e.g., admitted attorney or advocate) with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience.
• Experience in corporate law and commercial contract negotiation is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with South African legislation, particularly in areas like POPIA and commercial law.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage deadlines effectively in a remote environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships virtually.
