Senior Safety Engineer - Chemical Operations
About the Role
Our client is seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Safety Engineer to join their team in Klerksdorp, overseeing safety protocols within their chemical operations. This critical role ensures the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance across all plant activities. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a strong safety culture among all employees. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the site's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management system.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments, including HAZOP studies, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Investigate all safety incidents and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international safety legislation and standards.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for all site personnel, fostering a strong safety culture.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a safety engineering role within the chemical or process industry.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, hazard analysis techniques, and risk management principles.
- Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis methodologies.
- Strong communication, training, and leadership skills.
- Professional certifications in safety management are highly desirable.
