About the Role

This is a critical remote leadership role, requiring extensive expertise in geotechnical engineering and a passion for innovation in mine design and safety. You will be instrumental in ensuring the stability and integrity of automated mining environments, working with cutting-edge technology and contributing to the future of intelligent mining from anywhere in the world, including but not limited to East London .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and application of geotechnical engineering principles for automated and remote-controlled mining systems.
• Design and implement advanced ground support and slope stability solutions tailored for automated operations.
• Develop and oversee geotechnical monitoring programs using advanced sensor technologies and data analytics.
• Collaborate with robotics and automation engineers to integrate geotechnical safety into automated workflows.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of geotechnical engineers and specialists.
• Stay at the forefront of research and development in geotechnical engineering and its application to mining automation .

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with a significant portion focused on the mining industry .
• Proven experience or a strong understanding of geotechnical challenges and solutions within automated or remote-controlled mining environments.
• Expertise in numerical modeling, rock mechanics, and slope stability analysis.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently and lead a distributed, remote team effectively, contributing to advancements in East London ’s innovative mining sector ecosystem.
