Contract Lawyer - Commercial Litigation

About the Role

Our client requires an experienced Contract Lawyer specializing in Commercial Litigation for a significant project based in Durban . This role involves managing complex disputes and providing strategic legal counsel throughout the litigation process. You will be responsible for all phases of litigation, from initial case assessment and pleadings to discovery, motion practice, and potential settlement negotiations or trial preparation. The successful candidate will operate within a demanding yet rewarding environment, contributing crucial expertise to high-stakes legal challenges within the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all aspects of commercial litigation cases, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, and preparing for hearings.
• Analyze legal issues, develop case strategies, and advise clients on potential outcomes and risks.
• Represent the company in mediations, arbitrations, and court proceedings as required.
• Effectively communicate case status and legal advice to senior stakeholders.
• Collaborate with external counsel and experts to ensure comprehensive legal representation.
• Ensure timely and accurate documentation of all litigation activities and outcomes.

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney with at least 5 years of experience focused on commercial litigation.
• Proven success in managing complex litigation matters through to resolution.
• In-depth knowledge of civil procedure rules and evidence law in South Africa.
• Strong advocacy, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail are essential.
