Senior Mining Engineer - Mossel Bay Project Development
About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mining Engineer to play a critical role in the project development phase, with a focus on operations in the Mossel Bay region. This position will be primarily remote, allowing you to leverage your expertise in mine design, planning, and feasibility studies from anywhere. You will contribute to the technical evaluation of new mining projects, optimize mine layouts, and develop efficient extraction strategies. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer to influence the foundational stages of significant mining ventures, working within a collaborative team environment that values innovation and technical excellence. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of various mining methods and be adept at using advanced modeling software to support project decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed mine design and planning, including pit optimization, mine layout, and production scheduling for various deposit types.
- Perform feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new mining projects, assessing technical viability and financial returns.
- Develop operational plans and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize advanced mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Datamine) for modeling and simulation.
- Collaborate with geologists, metallurgists, and environmental specialists to integrate project requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for project stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning, design, and project development.
- Proficiency in state-of-the-art mine planning and design software.
- Experience with open-pit and/or underground mining methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and report-writing abilities for a remote role.
