About the Role

Our client is actively recruiting a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer for a fully remote position. This role is integral to developing and scaling the backend infrastructure that powers our client's innovative products. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining high-quality, scalable, and reliable services that meet complex business needs. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who excels in a remote setting, values autonomy, and is passionate about building robust software solutions. Join a collaborative team dedicated to technical excellence and continuous improvement, working from anywhere within South Africa, making it a great opportunity for talent previously based in Nelspruit .

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy robust, scalable, and maintainable backend services and APIs.
  • Optimize application performance, database queries, and system architecture for efficiency and reliability.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, adhering to best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and frontend engineering, to deliver features.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, design discussions, and architectural decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more backend programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
  • Solid experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a remote, asynchronous environment.
