Lead Geoscientist - Renewable Energy Projects

About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary Lead Geoscientist to spearhead geological and geophysical analysis for their expanding renewable energy projects based in Cape Town . This pivotal role involves assessing geological feasibility, identifying potential sites, and mitigating subsurface risks associated with wind, solar, and other sustainable energy infrastructure development. You will lead a team of geoscientists, collaborating with project managers, engineers, and environmental specialists to ensure the successful and safe implementation of renewable energy solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological and geophysical site assessments for renewable energy infrastructure (e.g., wind farms, solar plants, geothermal potential).
• Develop and manage subsurface investigation programs, including seismic surveys, borehole drilling, and geotechnical testing.
• Analyze geological data to identify and characterize potential risks, such as seismic activity, soil instability, and groundwater issues.
• Interpret geophysical data to inform foundation design, site layout, and operational planning.
• Lead and mentor a team of geoscientists and technicians, ensuring high-quality technical output.
• Collaborate with external consultants, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure project compliance and success.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a closely related earth science discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in geoscience, with a strong focus on site assessment for infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience in renewable energy site selection and risk assessment is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in geophysical data acquisition and processing techniques (e.g., seismic, GPR, magnetics).
• Experience with GIS software and geological modeling tools.
• Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
