About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a skilled and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their fully remote lending operations team. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for evaluating loan applications to assess risk and ensure compliance with lender guidelines and regulatory standards. You will analyze borrower financial information, property appraisals, and credit reports to make informed decisions on loan approvals. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of mortgage lending principles, and the ability to manage a high volume of applications efficiently. This position offers the flexibility of remote work combined with the satisfaction of helping clients achieve homeownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze loan applications, including credit reports, income verification, and asset documentation.
• Evaluate property appraisals and title reports to ensure collateral meets lender requirements.
• Assess overall borrower risk and make sound decisions on loan approval, denial, or counter-offer.
• Ensure all underwriting activities comply with NACA , FHA, VA, and conventional loan guidelines.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers, processors, and borrowers to gather necessary documentation and resolve issues.
• Maintain accurate and complete loan files, documenting all underwriting decisions and actions.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter , with a strong understanding of underwriting principles.
• In-depth knowledge of various mortgage products and secondary market guidelines.
• Familiarity with loan origination software (LOS) and underwriting platforms.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy.
• Strong understanding of relevant federal and state lending regulations.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
