About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and respected Senior Employment Lawyer to lead their employment law practice based in East London . This pivotal role involves providing expert legal advice on all aspects of employment law, including compliance, dispute resolution, industrial relations, and contract drafting. You will be instrumental in guiding the company through complex employment legislation and managing sensitive employee relations matters. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of labor law, exceptional advisory skills, and the ability to work effectively within a hybrid model, offering strategic guidance and support to management while mentoring junior team members, ensuring adherence to best practices and legal standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice on all employment law matters, including dismissals, retrenchments, and disciplinary processes.
- Draft, review, and update employment contracts, policies, and procedures.
- Represent the company in the CCMA, Bargaining Councils, and Labour Court.
- Advise on compliance with the BCEA, LRA, EEA, and other labor legislation.
- Conduct workplace investigations and advise on implicated matters.
- Develop and deliver training programs to management on employment law best practices.
Requirements
- Admitted attorney with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience specializing in employment law.
- Extensive knowledge of South African employment and labor law.
- Proven experience in representing clients in employment disputes and negotiations.
- Excellent legal drafting, advisory, and advocacy skills.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to manage a team.
- Experience working in a hybrid environment with strong remote communication capabilities.
