Senior Lighting Technical Director

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lighting Technical Director to join their esteemed visual effects studio in Nelspruit. You will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced lighting solutions that bring complex scenes and characters to life with photorealistic detail. This crucial role involves collaborating closely with the art and rendering departments, ensuring aesthetic consistency and optimizing render performance across a variety of demanding projects within the arts and entertainment sector. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain sophisticated lighting setups and workflows for feature films and animated projects.
• Collaborate with the art department and directors to achieve the desired mood, atmosphere, and visual quality.
• Optimize lighting scenes and render settings for maximum efficiency and quality.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to rendering, shaders, and lighting pipeline.
• Create and manage lighting assets, including shaders, textures, and custom tools.
• Mentor and guide junior lighting artists and TDs.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Lighting Technical Director or Senior Lighting Artist in VFX or animation.
• Expert proficiency in industry-standard lighting and rendering software such as Maya, Houdini, Arnold, V-Ray, or RenderMan.
• Strong understanding of cinematography, color theory, and composition.
• Experience with scripting languages like Python or MEL for tool development.
• Knowledge of shaders, textures, and 3D modeling principles.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
