Chief Mine Planner

About the Role

Our client is seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Mine Planner to lead mine planning operations in Rustenburg . This senior role is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing long-term and short-term mine plans that maximize resource recovery and ensure operational efficiency and safety. You will oversee a team of planners and work closely with geological, engineering, and operational departments to translate resource models into viable mining strategies. This is a pivotal leadership position within a major mining operation, demanding a forward-thinking approach and a deep understanding of mining economics and execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage integrated mine plans, including strategic, tactical, and operational planning horizons.
• Optimize mine sequences, production schedules, and equipment utilization to meet production targets.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for new projects and mine expansions.
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of mine design and layout, considering safety, environmental, and geological constraints.
• Collaborate with operational teams to ensure effective execution of the mine plan and identify areas for improvement.
• Mentor and manage the mine planning team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine planning and design, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Proven expertise in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) and scheduling tools.
• Strong knowledge of mining methods (both open pit and underground) and their applicability.
• Excellent understanding of mine economics, project management, and financial analysis.
• Demonstrated leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
