Geotechnical Engineer - Mining Operations

About the Role

Our client seeks a diligent and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join their operations team in Rustenburg . This role is critical for assessing and managing the geological stability of mining sites, ensuring safe and efficient extraction processes. You will conduct detailed site investigations, analyze soil and rock mechanics, and provide expert recommendations to mitigate risks associated with mining activities. This position demands a practical, hands-on approach and a deep understanding of earth sciences within the context of the mining industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and sampling in mining environments .
• Perform laboratory and in-situ testing to determine soil and rock properties.
• Analyze slope stability, foundation design, and seepage control for open-pit and underground mines.
• Develop geotechnical models and provide engineering recommendations for excavation, support systems, and tailings management.
• Oversee drilling programs and field data collection, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and present findings to project stakeholders and management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related geological science.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically within the mining sector .
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience suite, GeoStudio) is essential.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in demanding conditions and collaborate with diverse teams.
