Senior Automotive Performance Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and results-oriented Senior Automotive Performance Engineer to join their dynamic team in Mossel Bay . This role is centered on enhancing vehicle performance, efficiency, and drivability through rigorous testing, analysis, and development. You will work with prototype vehicles and cutting-edge equipment to optimize engine calibration, aerodynamics, and chassis dynamics. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, powertrain engineering, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of automotive performance, contributing to the development of high-caliber vehicles that exceed customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute performance testing procedures on vehicles and components, including track testing and dyno testing.
• Analyze test data to identify areas for improvement in engine performance, fuel efficiency, emissions, and vehicle dynamics.
• Develop and refine engine control unit (ECU) calibration maps to optimize performance parameters.
• Collaborate with design and engineering teams to implement performance-related modifications and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot and resolve performance-related issues identified during testing or by customers.
• Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in automotive performance engineering and competitive benchmarking.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in automotive performance engineering, with a strong emphasis on engine calibration and vehicle dynamics.
• Proficiency with engine dynamometers, chassis dynamometers, data acquisition systems, and simulation tools.
• Solid understanding of internal combustion engines, thermodynamics, and vehicle control systems.
• Experience with performance tuning software and methodologies.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
