Geophysicist - Exploration

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Geophysicist to join their exploration team in Pretoria . This role is crucial for identifying and evaluating potential hydrocarbon reserves through the interpretation of seismic and other geophysical data. You will work closely with geologists and reservoir engineers to develop exploration strategies and contribute to the company's resource discovery efforts. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, expertise in geophysical data processing and interpretation, and a passion for uncovering subsurface resources. This position offers a significant role in shaping the future exploration portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and interpret seismic data (2D/3D) to identify geological structures and potential hydrocarbon accumulations.
• Integrate geophysical data with geological, well log, and production data to build comprehensive subsurface models.
• Utilize geophysical software and tools for data analysis, mapping, and visualization.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of geophysical surveys, ensuring data quality and acquisition efficiency.
• Assess geological and geophysical risks associated with exploration prospects.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and exploration committees.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in geophysical exploration, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
• Proficiency with geophysical interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, HampsonRussell).
• Solid understanding of seismic data acquisition , processing, and attribute analysis.
• Experience with various geophysical methods, including gravity and magnetic surveys.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
