About the Role
Our client seeks a dedicated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their growing industrial automation division in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This role is crucial for designing, developing, and optimizing complex mechanical systems for automated production lines and equipment. You will play a key part in improving efficiency, reliability, and scalability of manufacturing processes, working closely with electrical engineers, automation specialists, and production teams. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in machine design and a passion for cutting-edge automation technology, contributing to a productive and innovative environment within our Richards Bay facility with potential for occasional remote work.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop bespoke mechanical systems and components for industrial automation applications.
- Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and Bill of Materials (BOMs) using CAD software.
- Perform mechanical analysis, including stress, fatigue, and thermal calculations, to ensure robustness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with electrical and control systems.
- Oversee the fabrication, assembly, and testing of automation equipment, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for existing automation systems and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in automation or machinery.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and basic FEA capabilities.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and industrial control systems.
- Experience with project management methodologies and working within team environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
