Geological Technician - Exploration Projects

About the Role

Our client seeks a meticulous and detail-oriented Geological Technician to support their exploration initiatives near Cape Town. This role is crucial for identifying and assessing new mineral resource deposits. You will work closely with senior geologists, assisting in field data collection, sample processing, and initial analysis. The position involves a mix of fieldwork and laboratory duties, providing valuable experience in the exploration lifecycle. Key Responsibilities

• Assist in geological mapping and data acquisition in the field, including rock chip sampling and core logging.
• Prepare and process geological samples for laboratory analysis, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
• Conduct basic field tests and measurements, such as specific gravity and magnetic susceptibility.
• Maintain accurate and organized field notes, databases, and sample inventories.
• Operate and maintain field equipment, ensuring calibration and functionality.
• Compile preliminary data reports and assist senior geologists with data interpretation.

Requirements

• A National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a related discipline.
• 1-3 years of relevant experience in geological fieldwork or laboratory settings.
• Proficiency in using geological tools and equipment, including GPS devices and sample collection tools.
• Basic understanding of geological principles and mineral identification.
• Ability to work effectively in challenging field conditions and varying weather.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in data management.
