Sommelier - Wine Estate

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious wine estate in Stellenbosch, is seeking a knowledgeable and sophisticated Sommelier to curate their wine offerings and enhance the dining experience for guests. This role requires a deep understanding of wines, excellent tasting skills, and the ability to guide guests through a diverse wine list, recommending pairings that complement their meals. You will play a key role in wine education for staff and guests, contributing to the estate's reputation for fine wine and dining. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the restaurant's wine list, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests during dining experiences.
• Manage wine inventory, including purchasing, storage, and cellar organization.
• Conduct staff training sessions on wine knowledge, service standards, and pairings.
• Oversee the proper service of wine, ensuring optimal temperature and glassware.
• Stay abreast of global wine trends and new vintages.

Requirements

• Certification from a recognized sommelier association (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3 or higher).
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-focused role.
• Extensive knowledge of international and South African wines, including varietals, regions, and producers.
• Excellent palate, tasting skills, and understanding of food and wine pairing principles.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage guests effectively.
• Experience in wine inventory management and cellar operations.
