Geologist - Exploration & Resource Evaluation

Our client is seeking a skilled and insightful Geologist to join their exploration team, contributing to the identification and evaluation of hydrocarbon resources. Based in Stellenbosch , this role will involve detailed analysis of geological data, seismic interpretation, and basin modeling to support drilling campaigns and resource estimation. You will collaborate closely with reservoir engineers and geophysicists to build a comprehensive understanding of subsurface potential within various geological basins. The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background and practical experience in Oil & Gas exploration , driving the discovery of new reserves and contributing to strategic asset development.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze geological data, including well logs, core samples, and seismic data.
• Develop and refine subsurface geological models and interpretations.
• Perform basin analysis and identify prospective areas for hydrocarbon exploration.
• Estimate hydrocarbon volumes and assess exploration risks.
• Collaborate with geophysicists and reservoir engineers on integrated field studies.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for management and joint venture partners.
• Stay abreast of new geological concepts and exploration technologies.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in exploration geology , preferably within the Oil & Gas industry .
• Proficiency in geological modelling and seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom).
• Strong understanding of sedimentary basin analysis and petroleum systems.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret complex geological datasets.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, essential for a hybrid work environment in Stellenbosch .
