Solar PV Installation Technician

About the Role

Our client is seeking a hands-on and reliable Solar PV Installation Technician to join their growing team serving the Upington area and surrounding Northern Cape regions. This role is vital for the successful installation and commissioning of photovoltaic systems for residential, commercial, and potentially utility-scale clients. You will be responsible for the physical mounting of solar panels, electrical wiring, and ensuring all installations meet safety and quality standards. This is a practical, field-based role for individuals with a strong aptitude for electrical work and a passion for renewable energy, contributing directly to the expansion of sustainable power solutions in a sun-rich region.

Key Responsibilities

• Install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems according to design specifications and electrical codes.
• Mount solar panels securely on roofs, ground mounts, or other structures.
• Perform electrical wiring of PV systems, including connecting inverters, charge controllers, and batteries.
• Test and commission newly installed solar PV systems to ensure proper functionality and safety.
• Troubleshoot and repair existing solar PV installations as needed.
• Ensure all installations adhere to local building codes, electrical codes, and company safety standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized worksite and ensure proper use of tools and equipment.

Requirements

• Qualified Electrician with a valid trade certificate or relevant vocational training in solar PV installation.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience installing solar PV systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical principles and wiring practices for DC and AC systems.
• Familiarity with safety procedures for working at heights and with electrical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and installation manuals.
• Good physical condition and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license and a commitment to customer service.
