Field Service Engineer - Power Generation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer specializing in Power Generation equipment to join their esteemed technical services team based in Cape Town . This role involves providing on-site technical support, maintenance, and repair for complex power generation systems, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime for our clients. You will be a key point of contact for customer technical issues, diagnosing problems, and implementing effective solutions. The role requires a blend of hands‑on technical expertise and strong customer‑facing communication skills, working within a hybrid model that balances field operations with occasional remote support and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a variety of power generation units, including turbines and generators.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Respond promptly to customer service calls and provide on-site technical assistance and repair services.
• Conduct pre‑commissioning checks, start‑up procedures, and performance testing of newly installed equipment.
• Develop and deliver technical training to customer staff on equipment operation and basic maintenance.
• Maintain accurate service reports, documentation, and inventory of spare parts for assigned service calls.

Requirements

• Degree or National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering.
• Proven experience as a Field Service Engineer, preferably in the power generation or industrial equipment sector.
• Strong knowledge of power plant operations, thermodynamics, and electrical systems.
• Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and relevant software.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and a methodical approach to fault finding.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and travel extensively to customer sites.
