Loan Underwriter

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and meticulous Loan Underwriter to join their lending team in Upington. You will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, assessing credit risk, and making informed decisions on loan approvals, denials, or modifications. This role requires a strong understanding of credit policies, financial analysis, and regulatory requirements to ensure prudent lending practices. You will play a vital role in managing the company's loan portfolio and contributing to its financial soundness and growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze loan applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and collateral appraisals.
• Assess borrower creditworthiness and determine the level of risk associated with each loan.
• Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with company policies, procedures, and relevant lending regulations.
• Approve or deny loan applications based on underwriting guidelines and risk assessment.
• Structure loan terms, conditions, and collateral requirements to mitigate risk.
• Communicate loan decisions and requirements clearly to loan officers and applicants.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in loan underwriting (e.g., commercial, residential, personal loans).
• Strong understanding of credit analysis, financial statement analysis, and risk assessment principles.
• Knowledge of lending regulations and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in loan origination software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
