Process Chemist - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Chemist to join their manufacturing operations team in Mossel Bay . This role is vital for optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will be responsible for ensuring that manufacturing processes are safe, efficient, reproducible, and environmentally sound. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work in a key operational role, contributing directly to the reliable production of high-quality pharmaceutical intermediates and APIs within a growing industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and scale-up chemical synthesis routes for APIs and intermediates.
• Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues encountered during manufacturing.
• Conduct process safety assessments and implement appropriate safety controls.
• Ensure manufacturing processes comply with GMP, environmental, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and quality control departments to ensure seamless process transfer and validation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in process chemistry, preferably within the pharmaceutical or fine chemical industry.
• Strong understanding of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and process scale-up principles.
• Experience with process safety evaluation and risk assessment.
• Proficiency in analytical techniques used for process monitoring and control.
