About the Role
Our client is actively seeking a seasoned Senior Environmental Engineer for a fully remote position, dedicated to conducting comprehensive environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and managing environmental compliance for projects across South Africa, potentially including areas near Mahikeng. This role is critical for ensuring sustainable development practices and adherence to environmental legislation. You will leverage your expertise to evaluate potential environmental effects of projects, develop mitigation strategies, and facilitate communication with regulatory bodies and project teams, all within a flexible, remote work structure that prioritizes collaboration and effective results.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the process of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
- Conduct baseline studies, risk assessments, and develop mitigation measures for environmental impacts.
- Ensure projects comply with all applicable national and provincial environmental laws and regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, review documents, and liaise with regulatory authorities remotely.
- Provide expert environmental advice and guidance to project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
- Monitor environmental performance and advise on corrective actions to ensure sustainability.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a strong focus on EIAs.
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex environmental projects remotely.
- In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA).
- Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS tools.
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills in a virtual setting.
