Senior Technical Artist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Artist to join their innovative studio in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. In this role, you will bridge the gap between art and technology, developing tools, pipelines, and workflows that empower the art team to create stunning visuals efficiently. You will play a critical part in optimizing art assets for performance and ensuring seamless integration into the game engine. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain art pipelines, tools, and scripts to enhance art production efficiency and quality.


• Optimize art assets (models, textures, animations) for real-time performance across various platforms.


• Collaborate with engineers and artists to troubleshoot technical issues and implement solutions.


• Create shaders, materials, and lighting setups that meet artistic and technical requirements.


• Provide technical guidance and support to the art team, fostering best practices in Stellenbosch.


• Research and implement new technologies and techniques to improve art asset creation and integration in the Arts & Entertainment space.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Art, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.


• 7+ years of experience as a Technical Artist in the games or interactive media industry.


• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL, C#) and experience with game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).


• Strong understanding of 3D modeling, texturing, animation, and rendering principles.


• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.


• Experience working within a collaborative studio environment in Western Cape.
