Senior Pharmaceutical Process Chemist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Pharmaceutical Process Chemist to join their Process Development team in Klerksdorp . This role is crucial for the scale-up and optimization of chemical synthesis routes for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). You will apply your expertise in organic chemistry and process engineering to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality APIs. Working within a hybrid model, you will contribute to transitioning new chemical entities from laboratory discovery to robust manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate is passionate about chemistry, problem-solving, and has a strong track record in developing scalable and sustainable chemical processes for pharmaceutical applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic routes for APIs, focusing on yield, purity, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
• Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory bench to pilot plant and manufacturing scale.
• Conduct process hazard analyses and implement appropriate safety measures for chemical operations.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered during process development and manufacturing.
• Characterize intermediates and final APIs using various analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, GC).
• Write detailed process development reports, batch records, and technology transfer documentation.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Process Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical process development or chemical manufacturing.
• Strong understanding of organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and process safety.
• Experience with scale-up challenges, process optimization, and route scouting.
• Proficiency with analytical techniques for chemical characterization.
• Familiarity with cGMP requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing.
