Process Safety Engineer - Chemical Processing

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols within their chemical processing facilities in Tembisa . This role is essential for identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards to ensure the safety of personnel, the environment, and the surrounding community. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining robust safety management systems and fostering a strong safety culture. This position requires a proactive approach to risk management and a deep understanding of chemical process operations within the Oil & Gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and risk assessments.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Investigate process safety incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Provide training and guidance on process safety principles to operational staff.
• Maintain safety documentation and performance metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in process safety within the Oil & Gas or chemical industry.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements and safety engineering principles.
• Experience with risk assessment methodologies (e.g., LOPA, PHA).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) is a plus.
