About the Role
Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to manage and monitor environmental performance at their mining operations near Mossel Bay . This role is critical in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, implementing sustainable practices, and minimizing the ecological impact of mining activities. You will conduct environmental impact assessments, develop and implement environmental management plans, and oversee rehabilitation efforts. The successful candidate will be passionate about environmental stewardship and possess a strong understanding of mining's environmental challenges and solutions, contributing to a responsible and sustainable mining future.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental baseline studies, impact assessments, and monitoring programs.
- Develop, implement, and manage Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining sites.
- Oversee waste management, water quality monitoring, and rehabilitation activities.
- Ensure compliance with national and local environmental legislation and permit conditions.
- Prepare environmental reports, including monitoring results, audit findings, and compliance statements.
- Engage with stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and local communities, on environmental matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, preferably within the mining or industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting processes.
- Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and management systems.
- Proficiency in data analysis and environmental reporting tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and project management skills.
