About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Senior Bioinformatician to join their drug discovery team, operating with a hybrid model in Nelspruit . This role is integral to leveraging large-scale biological data to identify and validate novel drug targets. You will design and implement computational strategies to analyze genomics, proteomics, and transcriptomics data, working closely with medicinal chemists and biologists. This is an excellent opportunity for a data-driven scientist to contribute to impactful drug discovery programs within a collaborative and innovative research environment in the Mpumalanga province.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret high-throughput screening data, genomic, and transcriptomic datasets.
- Develop and apply bioinformatics pipelines for target identification and validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate diverse biological data.
- Utilize statistical and machine learning methods to uncover biological insights.
- Communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to the design of experimental studies and data analysis plans.
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 4+ years of experience in bioinformatics, with a focus on drug discovery or related areas.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant bioinformatics libraries.
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis, machine learning, and data mining techniques.
- Experience with large biological datasets (e.g., NGS, proteomics).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills for a hybrid work setting.
