Drilling Fluids Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified Drilling Fluids Engineer to support their drilling operations near Mahikeng. This role involves the planning, management, and optimization of drilling fluid systems to ensure efficient and safe drilling operations. You will be responsible for specifying drilling fluid properties, monitoring performance, and troubleshooting any issues that arise. The position requires a strong understanding of fluid chemistry, rheology, and solids control, coupled with practical experience in a field setting within the oil and gas industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and recommend appropriate drilling fluid systems based on well conditions and operational objectives.
• Supervise mud operations at the rig site, ensuring adherence to specifications and safety standards.
• Monitor drilling fluid properties (e.g., density, viscosity, filtration) and make necessary adjustments.
• Manage inventory and logistics for drilling fluid additives and equipment.
• Conduct solids control efficiency evaluations and recommend improvements.
• Troubleshoot drilling fluid related problems such as lost circulation, stuck pipe, and formation damage.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer or equivalent role.
• Knowledge of drilling fluid chemistry, rheology, and solids control principles.
• Familiarity with drilling operations and related equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote field location, such as near Mahikeng, often on a rotational basis.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
