Formulation Scientist - Solid Dosage Forms

About the Role

Our client is looking for an innovative Formulation Scientist to lead the development of solid dosage forms within their pharmaceutical R&D department in Bloemfontein . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing oral solid dosage formulations, including tablets and capsules, from pre-formulation studies through to clinical trial material manufacturing. This role requires a deep understanding of drug delivery technologies and materials science to create effective and stable pharmaceutical products. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel formulations for oral solid dosage forms, considering bioavailability, stability, and manufacturability.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to characterize active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients.
• Utilize various manufacturing technologies (e.g., wet granulation, dry granulation, direct compression, coating) to produce and optimize dosage forms.
• Plan and execute formulation development experiments, analyze data, and prepare comprehensive development reports.
• Collaborate with analytical development, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs teams throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on experience in formulation development of solid dosage forms .
• Proficiency in drug product development, including understanding of API-physical properties, excipient compatibility, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with formulation characterization techniques and relevant analytical instrumentation.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements for drug product development and submission in pharmaceutical industry.
