Senior Substation Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Substation Engineer to join their expanding team in Randburg . This role is crucial for the design, implementation, and maintenance of high-voltage electrical substations that form the backbone of the energy distribution network. You will lead complex engineering projects, ensuring the integrity, reliability, and safety of substation infrastructure. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in substation design and operations, a deep understanding of grid standards, and the ability to manage projects from inception to completion within a dynamic and challenging operational landscape in Gauteng .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and engineering of new electrical substations, including protection, control, and power systems.
• Develop technical specifications, drawings, and Bill of Materials for substation equipment and construction.
• Oversee the construction, commissioning, and testing of substations, ensuring adherence to design and safety standards.
• Perform detailed fault analysis and protection coordination studies for complex power systems.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams, junior engineers, and field personnel.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to substation operations and equipment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in the design and engineering of high-voltage substations (e.g., 132kV and above).
• Proficiency in substation design software and protection relay settings software.
• Thorough understanding of power system protection principles , grid codes, and relevant industry standards.
• Experience in project management and site supervision during construction and commissioning phases.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.
