Senior Solar PV Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Solar PV Engineer to join their growing team in Benoni . This role is critical for the design, development, and implementation of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) projects. You will lead technical aspects from site assessment through to commissioning, ensuring optimal system performance, efficiency, and compliance with South African energy standards. This position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge solar technology and contribute significantly to the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in the region. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical acumen, a deep understanding of PV systems, and a passion for sustainable energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the detailed design and engineering of utility-scale and commercial solar PV systems, including system sizing , component selection, and layout optimization.
• Perform technical site assessments, energy yield estimations, and feasibility studies.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and BOMs (Bill of Materials).
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of solar PV plants, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during project execution and operation.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in solar PV technology , regulations, and industry trends.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design and engineering of solar PV systems .
• In-depth knowledge of PV components (modules, inverters, mounting structures), performance monitoring, and energy storage solutions.
• Proficiency in PV design software (e.g., PVSyst, Helioscope) and AutoCAD.
• Understanding of South African electrical standards, grid codes, and regulatory requirements for PV installations.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
