Chemical Process Engineer - Project Management

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and organized Chemical Process Engineer with strong Project Management skills to join their team in Upington. This role involves managing capital projects from conception through to commissioning, focusing on the design, installation, and optimization of chemical processes and facilities. You will coordinate with internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required technical specifications. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to lead significant engineering initiatives in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage chemical engineering projects, including scope definition, planning, execution, and closure.
• Develop process designs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and cost estimates for new installations and upgrades.
• Coordinate with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure all projects comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
• Facilitate technical reviews and stakeholder meetings throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical process engineering, with at least 3 years in project management.
• Proven experience managing capital projects in the chemical or process industry.
• Strong understanding of process design principles , equipment selection, and scale-up challenges.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and simulation tools is advantageous.
