Process Safety Engineer - Chemical & Energy

About the Role

Our client requires a proactive and experienced Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols within their Chemical and Energy operations in Stellenbosch . This critical role focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating process-related hazards to ensure the safety of personnel, the environment, and assets. You will play a key part in developing and implementing robust safety management systems and promoting a strong safety culture throughout the organization. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA to identify and evaluate risks.
• Develop and implement safety procedures, policies, and standards for chemical and energy processes.
• Oversee the design and implementation of safety systems, including emergency shutdown systems and relief devices.
• Perform risk assessments and manage the implementation of recommendations to reduce risk.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and industry best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process safety, with a strong understanding of chemical and energy industry hazards.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511).
• Experience in developing and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
