Senior Aviation Safety Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Aviation Safety Manager to lead and enhance their safety management systems remotely. In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety programs that ensure compliance with national and international aviation regulations. You will foster a strong safety culture across the organization, conduct thorough risk assessments, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to mitigate potential hazards. This position is ideal for a safety expert who is passionate about aviation safety, possesses strong analytical and leadership skills, and thrives in a remote-first environment, able to influence and implement best practices across geographically dispersed teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety audits across all operational areas.
• Investigate safety incidents and occurrences, determining root causes and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
• Promote and foster a proactive safety culture through training, communication, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to all levels of the organization.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities (e.g., SACAA) on safety matters and ensure ongoing compliance.

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in aviation safety management, with a significant portion in a leadership role.
• Possession of relevant aviation safety certifications or a degree in a related field (e.g., Aviation Management, Safety Science).
• In-depth knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS), risk management principles, and aviation regulations.
• Proven experience in conducting safety audits, investigations, and developing safety action plans.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with strong report-writing capabilities.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and influence teams in a remote work setting.
