Mechanical Design Engineer - Automotive Components

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to focus on the design and development of critical automotive components at their facility in East London . This position is integral to creating innovative, high-quality components that meet the demanding requirements of the automotive industry. You will work within a dedicated team, contributing to the entire product lifecycle from initial concept to series production. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an automotive-focused engineer to contribute to the sector's growth in the Eastern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop automotive mechanical components, considering performance, durability, and manufacturability.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings using industry-standard software.
• Perform simulations and analyses (e.g., stress, thermal, vibration) to validate design concepts.
• Collaborate with suppliers and internal manufacturing teams to ensure component feasibility and quality.
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem-solving activities.
• Stay updated on automotive industry trends, materials, and technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 4-7 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on automotive components.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA or SolidWorks, and experience with PLM systems.
• Solid understanding of automotive materials, manufacturing processes, and industry standards.
• Experience with DFMEA and PPAP processes is advantageous.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
