Senior Metallurgist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Metallurgist to join their processing division in Port Elizabeth . This role is vital for optimizing mineral processing operations, ensuring efficient recovery of valuable commodities. You will lead research and development initiatives, troubleshoot complex processing challenges, and implement best practices to enhance plant performance and product quality. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced metallurgist to take on a leadership role and make a significant contribution to the success of mining operations in the Eastern Cape.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize metallurgical processes, including comminution, flotation, leaching, and refining.
• Conduct laboratory and pilot plant test work to evaluate new process technologies and improve existing ones.
• Analyze plant performance data, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and manage metallurgical accounting systems to ensure accurate metal accounting.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior metallurgists and plant operators.
• Ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Master's or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in extractive metallurgy, preferably in base metals or precious metals processing .
• Strong understanding of mineral processing principles and technologies.
• Proficiency with metallurgical simulation software and data analysis tools.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
• Proven ability to manage R&D projects and drive operational improvements.
