Senior Chemical Engineer - Process Safety

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Chemical Engineer specializing in Process Safety to join their team in Pretoria . This critical role will ensure the highest standards of safety are maintained across all chemical operations. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive process safety management systems. This position requires a proactive individual with deep expertise in hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies to safeguard personnel, assets, and the environment within our facilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement robust Process Safety Management (PSM) programs, including PHA, LOPA, and MOC procedures.
• Conduct thorough hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies, risk assessments, and safety audits.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance on process safety requirements to engineering and operational teams.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international process safety regulations and standards.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to plant personnel and management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent technical field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in chemical process engineering with a strong focus on process safety.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements , HAZOP methodology, and risk assessment techniques.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and emergency response planning.
• Professional certification in Process Safety (e.g., CCPSC) is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for effective safety leadership.
