Environmental Scientist - Mining Compliance

About the Role

Our client is seeking a knowledgeable Environmental Scientist to manage compliance and sustainability initiatives within their mining operations near Paarl . This role is vital for ensuring that all mining activities adhere to environmental regulations and best practices, promoting responsible resource development. You will conduct environmental impact assessments, develop management plans, and oversee monitoring programs to minimize the ecological footprint of the operations. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and develop environmental management plans (EMPs).
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs for water, air, soil, and biodiversity.
• Ensure compliance with all national and local environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Develop and implement strategies for waste management, rehabilitation, and closure planning.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies, stakeholders, and community representatives on environmental matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA) and its application in mining.
• Experience with environmental impact assessment processes and environmental monitoring techniques.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.
